Criteria for LEAP Mentors

  • Good role models
  • Good school citizens
  • Students willing to make a commitment
  • Encouraging and supportive
  • Regular one-on-one contacts with the elementary students
  • Strong enough sense of self that he/she is comfortable helping others

Elementary Socially At-Risk Students

  • Non-residents of school community
  • Physical disability
  • Emotional problems
  • Cognitively delayed
  • Extremely high academic success
  • Dysfunctional family
  • Lack of parent role model
  • Poor interaction and communication skills
